Loincloth and Ashes – MBFWJ Day 4 (Mercedez Benz Fashion Week)

Image

After being shuffled around, the lights go out and the catwalk turns red. Music sets the mood for what is going to be an unforgettable experience. My first fashion show begins.

The programme says Avant, yet once the first few bits of the projector show have begun you slowly click that this is Loincloth and Ashes by Andiswa Mpungwa.

A traditional print two piece suit takes me down Sandton for a business meeting. The outfit is tailored for a busy woman who wants to still scream success at every turn but never sacrificing on her sense of style.

Coral satin high waisted wide legged pants, revive the late 70’s. When women worked and took charge of their independence. Colour is never too far from the ensembles. With bursts of blues and ochre’s in corseted tops, a fiery sex appeal is brought forward to the working girl.

Peter Pan collars in forms of jackets, skirts and pants made me dream of the Jackie O era. I could create my own vintage collection. This collection truly was diverse. Yes, there were the faux pas which I spotted from my seat but to knock it on that alone would be a crime.

Staying true to the Little Black Dress (LBD), it found itself being incarnated in a different form. Two piece yet retaining its sophistication, you can definitely take it out on a night on the town.

The overall summary of this collection was sophistication, sex appeal and confidence.
